Version History
Sill
Changed
- The line Sill adds to ~/.zshrc stays the same wherever Sill is installed.
Fixed
- Sill stopped working in every terminal when the copy of Sill that first turned on shell integration was moved or deleted, until shell integration was turned off and on again.
- Folders created or deleted after you completed a path in the same folder were not reflected until the terminal tab was reopened.
Added
- With "Complete command names" on, commands you installed with Homebrew appear with their package's description.
- With "Learn unknown commands from --help" on, a command's own zsh completion file fills in its subcommands and options.
Fixed
- Commands installed while Sill was running did not appear until Sill was restarted.
Added
- With "Complete command names" on, your zsh aliases appear alongside commands with what each one runs, as with
gcoforgit checkout. - A simple alias keeps the completions of the command it stands for, so
gcolists your branches the same waygit checkoutdoes. - Git aliases appear after
git, and after an alias such asg, sogit colists your branches whencois set tocheckout. - Aliases appear in terminal tabs opened after this update.
Fixed
- Choosing a path under
~/inserted a stray backslash in front of it. - Folder and file names with spaces or quotes were inserted without escaping for some commands.
Added
- Typing
.offers./on top, so Return runs the line as typed.
Changed
- The menu bar icon is drawn a little thinner, closer to the weight of the system's own icons.
- The Settings window could no longer be dragged after a switch in it was flipped.
- The menu bar icon is now Sill's own: a prompt with a suggestion card, like the app icon.
- The app icon's background looked flat in the Dock and Finder. It now shows its gradient.
- Fixed folder suggestions not appearing for a path such as
cd ../after the previous update.
- Fixed the popup flashing for a moment when pressing Return on a command recalled from history with the arrow keys.
- Closing Settings or the welcome window now returns you to the app you were using, so other apps' shortcuts keep working right away.
- A command recalled from history with the arrow keys or ⌃R opens no popup, so the next arrow keeps moving through history. Typing on that line brings the popup back.
- In VS Code, the popup stayed in the wrong place and vanished after an editor group was added or removed beside the terminal.
- In VS Code, the popup follows the terminal more quickly when the layout changes while it is open.
- In Ghostty, the popup appeared at the bottom of the window after the screen was cleared with ⌘K, then vanished.
- In Ghostty, the popup keeps its place on a line that contains Korean or other wide characters.
- Fixed steady processor use that began once Settings had been opened and went on after the window was closed.
Changed
- In commands that list paths, such as
cd, the folder list narrows with every letter as you type. - Items closest to what you are typing come first, ahead of ones you picked before.
- Scripts from package.json list above files and folders whose names start the same way.
Fixed
- Pressing Return right after the last letter completes the word you typed.
- In VS Code the popup opens at the current cell and holds still while you type.
- Text in the highlighted row turns dark on light accent colors such as yellow.
- Holding an arrow key stops at the end of the list, and a single press at the end wraps round.
- Terminal tabs opened after this update reconnect on the next keystroke when Sill is quit and relaunched, or updated.
- A small "Loading…" row sits at the bottom of the popup while a list is still on its way, as with
npm install re. - Typing
..offers../like any other folder, and withcd ../it stays on top so Return goes up one level. - Newer gh commands are completed, such as
gh auth switchandgh auth token. - With "Learn unknown commands from --help" on, a command that already has a definition also gains what that definition lacks.
- Completing a folder no longer adds a trailing slash; typing one lists what is inside.
- If the highlighted item is exactly what you typed, Return runs the command.
lsruns even withlsofin the list. - Typing an alias puts its command first:
npm ilists install above info and init. - Fixed a stray space after some completions.
- Splitting a pane or resizing the window no longer throws the popup off: it finds the caret again on the very next keystroke, with no Enter needed.
- Clearing the screen with ⌘K is handled the same way.
- Fixed a runaway where stray terminal replies could flood the prompt with text until you pressed ^C.
- In Ghostty the popup now follows the caret from the screen itself, so a wrapped line above the prompt no longer shifts it.
- A terminal that answers its first query slowly, like a freshly opened pane, now gets a full second instead of losing the whole first line.
- Sill now speaks Korean: Settings, onboarding and the menu follow your system language.
- Type the first letter and Sill can offer the command itself, with a line on what it does. Switch on "Complete command names" in Settings.
- Matching is fuzzy now: "chk" finds checkout and "rb" finds rebase, and the letters that matched are shown in the list. Exact and prefix matches still come first.
- After completing a word, your terminal's syntax highlighting updates right away instead of leaving it half-coloured.
- The list's icons no longer change with your system language.
- The "Check for Updates" button in Settings is its own size again.
- Ghostty and cmux now get completions too, alongside Terminal.app, iTerm2 and VS Code.
- Commands the definitions don't cover can now be learned from their own help text. Switch it on under Specs in Settings, and only real programs are ever run.
- Completing a word no longer leaves a space behind it, and the list closes so your next keystroke goes straight to the shell.
- When what you typed is already the whole word, Return runs the command instead of completing it.
- The list lines up with your cursor the same way in every terminal now.
- Arrowing to the top or bottom of a long list keeps the highlighted row clear of the edge instead of tucking it under.
- Fixed the stray characters that could appear at your prompt when a terminal answered slowly.
- Fixed the pale corners that showed around the popup.
- Initial release: IDE-style autocomplete for Terminal.app and iTerm2. A popup at your cursor with subcommands, options, files, and branches for the command you're typing, each with a short description.
- Arrows choose, Tab or Return inserts, Esc dismisses. With the popup closed, Return runs your command as usual.
- Completion definitions for hundreds of CLIs from the open-source withfig/autocomplete corpus, downloaded on first run and refreshed daily.
- Dynamic suggestions (git branches, npm scripts, file paths) computed locally in the session's working directory.
- A one-line zsh integration installed from the app (and cleanly removable in Settings); ~/.zshrc is backed up first.
- Sparkle keeps the app up to date.
