Pharos app icon

Version History

Pharos

1.3.2
  • A shortcut recorded while a Korean input source was on showed a Korean letter instead of the key.
  • A shortcut using F1 through F20 showed a blank key.
  • Reset to Default left the shortcut button showing the previous shortcut.
  • Closing Settings or switching apps while recording the lock shortcut left it off until Settings was opened again.
1.3.1

Changed

  • Opening Pharos again while it's running, from Spotlight or the Applications folder, brings up Settings.

Fixed

  • With the menu bar icon hidden, opening Pharos when it wasn't running showed no window.
1.3.0

Added

  • Pharos is available in Korean. The menu, Settings, and welcome window follow the macOS language.
  • Settings shows a warning when another app is already using the lock shortcut.

Changed

  • Settings uses the system's grouped style, with section headers and rounded boxes like Xcode's settings.

Fixed

  • The locked screen could stop responding to clicks and keys, leaving no way to unlock it.
  • Pharos could be quit from the keyboard while the screen was locked, uncovering the screen.
  • Keys typed while the unlock dialog was opening could reach the app behind the locked screen.
  • A display connected while unlocking was left uncovered.
  • The first click on the locked screen sometimes did nothing.
  • A timed keep-awake ended late if the Mac had slept in the meantime.
1.2.5
  • The Settings window could no longer be dragged after a switch in it was flipped.
1.2.4
  • The app icon's background looked flat in the Dock and Finder. It now shows its gradient.
1.2.3
  • Closing Settings or the welcome window now returns you to the app you were using, so other apps' shortcuts keep working right away.
1.2.2
  • Fixed steady processor use that began once Settings had been opened and went on after the window was closed.
1.2.1
  • Unlocking could leave macOS's secure-input mode stuck with loginwindow, silently starving every key-listening app on the Mac (brightness keys, input-source switchers) until the screen was locked and unlocked again. The authentication context is now torn down explicitly, and if macOS still leaves the mode stuck, Pharos detects it and explains the gesture that clears it.
  • After unlocking, the lock shortcut (⇧⌘L by default) needed two presses to lock again. The lock's input shield was swallowing the shortcut's own release events, so the system believed it was still held down.
1.2.0
  • Locked Awake: cover every display in black and swallow input while background work keeps running, for stepping away. Unlock with Touch ID or your account password after Return, Esc, or a click.
  • A global shortcut, ⇧⌘L by default, locks from anywhere; change it in the new Shortcuts pane in Settings.
  • The Accessibility permission the lock needs (to swallow shortcuts like ⌘Tab) is requested only the first time you lock. Keeping the Mac awake still uses no permissions at all.
1.1.2
  • Spotlight now finds the app by its Korean name and by what it does: 파로스, 잠자기 방지, and keep awake all match.
1.1.1
  • Fixed: installing by COPYING the app (instead of Finder-moving it) left it running from Gatekeeper's translocated read-only path, which blocked Sparkle updates. The app now detects this at launch, clears the quarantine flag, and relaunches itself from its real location.
1.1.0
  • First-run onboarding that introduces the menu bar toggle and the timed presets.
1.0.0
  • Initial release: keep your Mac awake from the menu bar. Left-click the beacon to toggle, right-click for timed presets (from 15 minutes to 8 hours) with a live countdown.
  • Optionally keep the display awake too (on by default, since a dark, locked screen is indistinguishable from a sleeping Mac), toggleable while active.
  • Choose the menu bar icon style (beacon, sun, eye, or coffee cup), hide the icon entirely, start keeping the Mac awake at launch, and launch at login.
  • Sparkle keeps the app up to date.
